Kelowna City Council will be asked to approve a series of parking fee changes at Kelowna International Airport Monday.

The fee changes will include some increases, some decreases as well as some new initiatives.

The new initiatives include free parking for the first 15 minutes in both the short term and long term parking lots.

While the hourly rates will remain the same, $1 for the first hour or part thereof in both short and long term lots and $2 for each additional hour in the short term lot, day rates will change.

Day rates for the short term lot will be pegged at a maximum of $12. That is an increase of $2 for the first day and a decrease of $8 for each subsequent day.

The day rates for the long term lot increase from $5 a day to $8 a day to a weekly maximum of $42.

Curbside parking meters remain $1 for 30 minutes.

The recent parking expansion at the airport saw an increase in curbside meter stalls to 29, short term parking stalls to 597 and paved long term parking stalls to 2,241.

Airport officials estimate an increase in parking revenues of $471,500 based on a 26% increase in the number of stalls, a projected 3% increase in passenger growth, an increase in fees in the long term lot and decrease of fees in the short term lot.
